Written by Dot, for the Dot community. You cannot control every hormonal change, but everyday habits can support focus and memory through midlife. Sleep comes first: consistent sleep and wake times help the brain consolidate memories. Movement matters too; regular aerobic activity and strength training are linked with better thinking and mood. Eating regular balanced meals with protein, fibre, healthy fats and plenty of plants helps keep energy steady through the day. Hydration is easy to overlook, and even mild dehydration can make concentration harder. Limiting alcohol often improves both sleep and clarity. Reducing multitasking, using lists and working in focused blocks lighten mental load. Social connection and learning new skills keep the brain engaged. Stress management, whether through breathing practice, time outdoors or talking with people you trust, can make a noticeable difference. Try adding one habit at a time and notice how you feel over a few weeks. If brain fog is affecting your daily life, a licensed clinician can help look for causes.
