Written by Dot, for the Dot community. Hot flashes can feel especially hard to manage at work, in meetings or while presenting. A little planning can help you feel more in control. Dress in breathable layers you can remove quickly, and keep a small fan, a water bottle and a cooling cloth at your desk. If possible, sit near a window, a door or airflow. When a flash starts, slow, paced breathing through the nose can help it pass more comfortably. Many women find it reassuring to have a simple phrase ready, such as saying they just need a moment. Some workplaces now offer menopause support, flexible arrangements or a cooler workspace, and it can be worth asking what is available. Keeping track of when flashes happen may show whether stress, caffeine or long meetings play a role for you. You are not alone in this; it is one of the most common experiences in midlife. If symptoms feel overwhelming, a licensed clinician can discuss treatment options. This is general education, not medical advice.
